According to the findings from the survey, from January to November 2010 in Italy tax evasion has experienced a growth rate - compared to what happened in 2009 - 10.1%. With a level of tax evasion amounting to 54.5% of taxable income, the Italians are confirmed then the biggest tax evaders in Europe. In absolute terms, in 2010 the Italian exchequer coffers will suffer a shortfall of 159 billion euro.
The survey
Krls study is based on the reprocessing of data from ministries and central banks, statistical institutes and bodies of tax police of individual European states. The escape was estimated taking into account five major areas: the economy, the criminal economy, tax evasion of corporations, avoidance of big company and that of the self-employed and small businesses.

According to research from Contribuenti.it fact, evasion is more widespread in the North West (29.4% of the national total) and the South (24.5%), Center (23.2%) and North East (22.9%).
